Week 1 - Saturday 10th September

Bridgnorth 1st Team - Tournament

Bridgnorth took part in a triangular tournament on Saturday against Old Halesonians and Wolverhampton.

Bridgnorth lost their first game to Old hales 3-2 in a game they should have won. Bridgnorth had much the better of the first half controlling the game for long periods. Old Hales took the lead against the run of play but Bridgnorth fought back to equalise through James Speke. Shortly after Bridgnorth were awarded a stroke when an Old Hales player illegally stopped the ball on the line from a short corner, Matt Ealey duly converted.

Bridgnorth should have increased their lead but missed some good chances. The second half was much different with Bridgnorth letting Old hales get back into the game with some poor and sloppy play. Bridgnorth lacked urgency and were duly punished with Old Hales scoring two quick goals to take the lead. As much as Bridgnorth tried they could not get themselves back into the game.

Bridgnorth then entertained Wolverhampton and put in a superb performance from start to finish. Bridgnorth played with fluency control and confidence with Pete Evans, Danny Wright and Joe Toulson, all excellent in midfield.

Speke and Ealey caused havoc up front and were well supported from behind. Bridgnorth deservedly took the lead when Speke finished off a great move down the right. Shortly after Wright made it 2-0 from a short corner.

The second half Bridgnorth kept their shape and discipline and played intelligent hockey. Tom Cresswell scored Bridgnorth’s third after deflecting in an Evans shot. Bridgnorth could and should have at least doubled the score line with Harry Harbage, Ealey and Cresswell twice all going close. The score stayed at 3-0 this was a more than satisfactory end to the day for a Brignorth side growing in confidence.
